Louisville’s First Ever Burgoo Bowl

Against The Grain Team Behind Pro-Am Culinary Competition

Downtown – Kentucky’s second favorite export, Burgoo, gets an overdue spotlight moment in a hands-on upcoming event being put together by the Against the Grain team and sponsor, Log Still Distillery.

On Saturday, March 19th at 3pm, The ATG Smokehouse will be host to Louisville’s first ever Burgoo Bowl: a Pro-Am cook-off aimed at bringing out the best amateur and professional Burgoo makers in the region.

Burgoo, the uniquely Kentucky stew, is interpreted in a multitude of ways and they’re all welcomed to be showcased at the Burgoo Bowl. Participants will compete for top honors in three categories: most creative recipe, people’s choice and best in show. Prizes include trophies, gift certificates and more importantly, bragging rights.
The competition is open to the first 20 participants with 15 spots reserved for home chefs and 5 spots for restaurant entrants.

General Overview:

$10 entry gets you a sampling of all of the participating burgoos and a vote.

$15 gets you burgoo sampling and an ATG beer.

How to participate:

Registration form must be fully completed to be accepted. Burgoo entries must not contain any wild game as a protein ingredient to be considered.
If selected as a participant for the burgoo cook-off event held on March 19th you are required to prepare your burgoo recipe prior to the event. Heat sources will be provided at the event to keep burgoo held at the proper temperature range (165 ℉) until served. Crockpots may also be used if preferred but will not be provided by event staff.

Each participant is required to prepare 3-5 gallons of burgoo if chosen to compete in the burgoo cook-off event.

There is no reimbursement for ingredient costs.

You agree to comply with in-home food safety guidelines (based on KY food safety guidelines) as your burgoo will be served to the public.
